yesterday i got home from cruising around the Fjordlands of Northern Norway with what the Northern Alpine Guides would refer to as: Team America. Tom Dugan, Sandy Flint, Chris Howard and I had 10 days of Epic drives, breathtaking on and on-piste shredding, north-of-the-arctic-circle surfing, cod slaying, running around Oslo and as much exploring into the soul of what it means to be scandinavian as we could handle… here’re some photos from the trip, check out Facebook for more and check back in later for the video…

ODE to Chicago : 11/11/11

This short black and white film was produced in Chicago for the One Day on Earth (ODE) global media event, “creating a time capsule for the whole world to better understand itself.”

The concept is simple: every day, every second, everyWHERE, something is happening. Almost alive itself, our world is a constantly changing place, and the intricate parts that make it up are constantly moving. The ODE project gives people around the globe the annual opportunity to share their photos, video, and other media, all taken on the same day.

The non-profit organization then spends the following year compiling breathtaking montages based on human themes and emotions. Contributors to the project are guided through a tagging process to help the editors stay afloat in the ocean’s worth of gigabytes they receive. All content gets filed away based on geography (by the way, there’s a map), photography/cinematography style, subject themes, human emotions conveyed, and more. The final product speaks for itself, in a way that I can not attempt to articulate. Here is a short preview of footage compiled from last year’s ODE: 10/10/10:

My contribution? Several short vignettes from a day all over Chicago. I flew out just for the weekend to spend some quality time with friends from college, the video is proof that we were living life to the fullest. Scenes include morning traffic, record spinning, lunch at Hot Doug’s (Chicago’s sausage king), strolling around Millenium Park, and the Navy Pier at night.
